Qantas TV Awards 2006

Petra Bagust and Dominic Bowden host the New Zealand television industry’s premier night, the Qantas Television Awards, where awards are given for excellence in news, current affairs, drama and general television, screening Saturday, November 18th at 9pm on 3.

The joint-network event will be attended by all the celebrities, movers and shakers of the New Zealand television industry, from the Auckland Aotea Centre.

This year TV3 has been rewarded for its outstanding drama series Doves Of War, which has been nominated for six awards, and the highly successful drama Outrageous Fortune, nominated for four awards.

Both series are up for Best New Zealand Drama, Best Actor in a TV Drama (Scott Wills and Antony Starr), and Best Actress in a TV Drama (Kate Atkinson and Robyn Malcolm).

Doves Of War is also nominated for Best Director (Chris Bailey), Best Camera (Fred Renata) and Best Editing (Bryan Shaw), while Outrageous Fortune has another nomination for Best Script (Rachel Lang/James Griffin).

TV3 has nine nominations for its news and current affairs, with Duncan Garner nominated for Best News Reporter, Mark Scott for Best Current Affairs Reporter, and 3 News and Campbell Live both up for Best News and Current Affairs Series respectively.

Maddigan’s Quest, bro’Town, Pulp Sport, Snatch Our Booty, The Living Room, House Trap, Target and Downsize Me are all up for awards.

The TV2 drama series The Insiders Guide To Love has ten nominations, while TV1 has 19 nominations across the news and current affairs categories, and TV2’s 20/20 has three nominations.

Brent Impey, CEO of CanWest MediaWorks NZ and Chairman of the NZ Television Broadcasters’ Council, said the awards will celebrate the many hours spent creating quality free-to-air New Zealand television.

“The awards give us all the chance to pat ourselves on the back and celebrate our industry. The ten percent increase in entries this year is also a sign of the strength of the New Zealand television industry, and the fact that viewers love New Zealand content.”

Tune in to the Qantas Television Awards with guest presenters Rove McManus and Kiwi actor Lisa Chappell, screening Saturday, November 18th at 9pm.
