Everybody hates Chris Season 2: Whoopi Goldberg Features

Saturday, January 27th at 7:30pm

Academy Award-winner Whoopi Goldberg stars in the season two premiere of Everybody Hates Chris, screening Saturday, January 27th at 7:30pm.

Creator, Executive Producer and narrator Chris Rock (on whose life the show is based) says Academy Award-winner Goldberg will play a re-occurring role rather than just make cameo appearances.

“I’m a fan. It’s not like stunt casting. Stunt casting to me is like, ‘Hey, Shaq (Shaquille O’Neil) just came over.’ We got Whoopi Goldberg to act because she’s very funny.”

Goldberg will play a woman from Queens who moves next door to Chris (Tyler James Williams). Her granddaughter will cause the young lad to have dreams of love.

Goldberg is scheduled to appear throughout the season, but it could turn into a more permanent role. Jacqueline Mazarella (who plays Chris’ teacher Ms. Morello) was originally scripted for one line of dialogue back in season one, and she has turned into a recurring character who’s been in more than 20 episodes so far!

“It started out as a one-episode, one-line role last season. It was my first audition in Los Angeles. I had just gotten here from New York a few weeks before. It was such a small part that I didn’t have any lines to prepare, I just had to do a couple of improves,” says Mazarella.

She plays Ms. Morello, one of the show’s funniest, most cringe-inducing characters whose ignorant racist quips are only signs of affection for Chris, one of the only black kids at his school.

“The reason the character works is that she loves Chris, and she really wants to help him, but she makes all of these assumptions about who he is, what his family is like and where he must live, so all of the things that come out of her mouth are so horribly racist. My job is to make the lines seem like they come from a good place, that she just doesn’t know any better.”

Tune in to the brand new season of the hilarious Everybody Hates Chris, created by Emmy Award-winner Chris Rock, screening Saturday, January 27th at 7:30pm.
