Final of House Trap: Downsize your Mortgage

Tuesday, February 13th at 7:30pm

In the final of the House Trap series, Downsize Your Mortgage investigates the alternatives to buying a house and being weighed down by a big mortgage, and follows a range of people who’ve actively decided not to tie up all their money in their home, screening Tuesday, February 13th at 7:30pm.

Hosted by Malcolm Law, House Trap is the informative New Zealand show which gives you all of the tips you need to know about buying, selling and owning a home or investment property.

We’re all familiar with the huge hike in property prices over the last five years and the frantic scramble to buy houses. But an increasing number of people are now choosing to buck this trend: by selling up altogether and moving into rental homes or apartments; downsizing their mortgage; sharing a property with a family member; or buying alternative types of accommodation like boats, buses and caravans.

In this episode of House Trap we investigate the various pros and cons of renting versus buying and downsizing your mortgage versus being mortgaged to the hilt.

Fiona and Dave are following their dream of moving to the country and slicing their mortgage in half at the same time – “we want a new lifestyle, have more time as a family and have more money”. Sounds easy but a simple life in Ekatahuna presents a whole new set of challenges.

Eric has made radical life changes to get his debt under control and think about how he can build wealth for his future – he’s sold his home and bought a yacht.

“I want to enjoy the rest of my time and do things I want to do and live in a different environment and be totally debt free,” says Eric.

Tune in to the final episode of the House Trap series, with the informative Downsize Your Mortgage, screening Tuesday, February 13th at 7:30pm.
