Strong start for Close Up

New Zealand viewers have given the thumbs up to CLOSE UP. TV ONE’s nightly current affairs programme attracted over 420,000 viewers in its first week back on air with new host Mark Sainsbury, winning a 25.8 share in the target demographic of National 25-54 and a 26.8 share in Auckland 25-54.

CLOSE UP also made a strong showing last night against the first episode of TV3′s current affairs offering – and a resurgent Black Caps team – winning the key demographics of 5+ (25.7% share), National 25-54 (20.1% share), and Auckland 25-54 (23.7%) convincingly.

CLOSE UP is New Zealand’s most watched current affairs programme, covering politics, sport, entertainment and the issues that touch the lives of New Zealanders. The programme’s dedicated team of experienced and award-winning field reporters cover stories from all over New Zealand while, in the studio, Mark interviews the newsmakers of the day.

In 2006 CLOSE UP had a stellar year, finishing up as the most watched Current Affairs programme in New Zealand, well ahead of TV3 in the ratings for both the TV ONE target demographic of 25-54 year-olds and the TV3 target of 18-49 year-olds.

For in-depth coverage of the day’s events, join the CLOSE UP team every weeknight at 7pm on TV ONE.

Campbell Live’s studio looks way better than Close Up’s.

Does anyone know how the rest of the share was broken up? Would be easier to make a comparison if we knew all the figures.
