Saturday 10 February, from 8.30pm
The best of British literature is bought to life in this, the first of TV ONE’s Saturday Showcase.
Charlotte Bronte’s epic tale of love, lies and secret passion is portrayed in a lavish adaptation of ‘Jane Eyre’. A universally loved tale with enduring appeal, ‘Jane Eyre’ is packed with unforgettable incidents including schoolgirl tragedy, a mad wife locked in the attic, an interrupted wedding, near-death and fire. Newcomer Ruth Wilson (Jane Eyre) and Toby Stephens (Edward Rochester) head the cast, which includes Georgie Henley, who recently starred in ‘The Chronicles of Narnia’, filmed in New Zealand, playing young Jane.
Following ‘Jane Eyre’ will be Shakespeare’s rollicking tale ‘The Taming Of The Shrew’. It sees Katherine Minola (Shirley Henderson), a talented but shrewish politician, under pressure to marry for its political PR value. When eccentric free-spirit Petruchio (Rufus Sewell) bursts onto the scene and almost immediately proposes, Kate decides to take the plunge. What follows is a romantic comedy exploring the complexities of male/female relationships through their explosive and unexpected romance.
