Could this site BE any slower?

Seriously though, doesn’t matter if I am at work with a megafast connection, or at home also with broadband, this site is slow as hell.

I often open up several pages in tabs at once in firefox. This will load last every single time.

Even if it is the ONLY site I am opening, I get the top bit, some ads and then wait, wait, wait for the community bit to turn up.

Not to mention the random sign-outs :S

Stuff.co.nz HAD those fracking annoying tv ad side pop ups and even then it still managed to load in a reasonable time.

Anyone else having speed troubles?

About the author

I get most of my TV from the net nowadays, so miss most of ads, and dont watch any reality shows, I live in reality, why should I have to watch it on tv too?

I am actually quite a lovely, light hearted person, the kind that you will think "wow, which is cuter and lovlier, this guy, or this bundle of puppies...hmm this guy" but I am usually the unwelcome voice of reason on the net.

Being "over" something means that you don't need to have the last word. For some people, apparently they can't be over it unless everyone else know they are over it. Same if they want to ignore someone, they have to make sure everyone knows they are ignoring it.

When you drop to an insult instead of rebuttal, it means you ran out of argument. If you make the same argument even though it has already been proven incorrect or invalid or had questions raised about it...then you are out of argument.

Both mean...you need to think about what you think about.

I am. Throng has always been painfully slow to load for me.

  • MrCynical

Watching kontera, adsever, amazon, eyeblaser, APN, mediaonenetwork, imrworldwide, gladeye or whatever flick past loading in the status bar at the bottom certainly goes a long way to explain

I have exactly the same problem… It is one of the slowest websites I visit! It’s a shame, because I like it.

Maybe its your internet conection that makes things slow.

    Hi everyone,

Thanks for your comments. We will be reviewing some of the content on the site this week to reduce the size of the page which should ultimately reduce the load time.

For me, it is very slow. Probably one of the slowest web sites I go to.

Real shame, as if it was faster, I’d pop in more often. I appreciate the need for sponsorship and adds to pay costs, as these webs sites cost a lot to provide, but perhaps a compromise needs to be made or a faster server sourced.

Don’t want to complain but now that Throng is “on the map”, let’s keep it that way ;-)

JessicaKirbyshire, if other sites load fast and this is the only one that loads slow, do you still really think it is the internet connections fault?

  • tvnewser

Thanks Regan, that will be great!

I have had the same problem and I have been accessing the site from three different computers, all with broadband connections at all different times of the day.
I would think it’s the page server that the site is coming from.

I’ve made some changes this afternoon and hopefully that has sped things up a bit but we’ll look into it. It loads fine for me but there were some problems earlier this week with Media Temple (the host).

  • Tui

    Loads fine for me too…

  • tvnewser

It’s the same for me on several different broadband connected computers as well.

It does seem to be loading a bit faster tonight already.

  • yitz

Yeah I have to say it’s pretty bad here. :[

MediaTemple’s bandwidth is horrible, it goes through 3 ISPs, or 4, if you include Xtra broadband here. Maybe in the US MediaTemple peers with every ISP but their international bandwidth is not tops.

Hosting in NZ could be an option but then I see this site has many international versions.

  • Wingles

Definitely one of the slower loading sites here too.

    Loads fine for me??
