RETURNING SERIES on 3 - Law & Order - Wednesday July 4

Ripped from the headlines

Wednesday, July 4th at 9:30pm

Law & Order, the record holder for the most consecutive nominations in the Emmy for Award Outstanding Drama Series category, and the longest-running current drama series on television, returns to 3 on Wednesday, July 4th at 9:30pm.

The plots often have a resemblance to actual cases, such as in the 1998 episode ‘Tabloid’, in which a woman is killed in an auto accident after being pursued by a gossip reporter, which followed the similar death of Princess Diana the previous summer.

3 kicks off half way through the 15th series with an episode about a paroled child murderer who is run down, which leads Detective Joe Fontanato (Dennis Farina) to a terrified social worker and an experimental prison therapy program.

The episode draws on characters and events from the first season episode ‘Indifference’ from 1990, which appeared to be ripped from the headlines of the Lisa Steinberg murder case.

Joel Steinberg, a former New York criminal defense attorney, was accused of murder and convicted of manslaughter of six-year-old Elizabeth (‘Lisa’), whom he had allegedly adopted under false pretences.

Law & Order has timed this episode due to the recent release of Steinberg.

Unfortunately the show is missing one key character this season. Shortly before filming on this 15th series commenced, beloved 69-year-old actor Jerry Orbach, who played Detective Lennie Briscoe, lost his battle to prostate cancer.

Creator and Executive Producer of all Law & order spin-offs (SVU, Criminal Intent) Dick Wolf was particularly saddened by the passing of Orbach.

“I’m immensely saddened by the passing of not only a friend and colleague, but a legendary figure of 20th-century show business,” Wold said in a statement. “He was one of the most honoured performers of his generation. His loss is irreplaceable.”

Law & Order will carry on without the beloved character of Lennie Briscoe. Tune in to catch the return of the longest running drama series in the history of television, Law & Order, on Wednesday, July 4th at 9:30pm on 3.
