Boston Legal: Series Final: Tuesday 10 July

A mixture of brilliant writing and witty acting equals success

Alan Shore and Denny Crane (Emmy Award-winners James Spader and William Shatner) defend two brothers accused of murdering their abusive father in the exciting season finale of Boston Legal, screening Tuesday, July 10th at 9:30pm.

The Emmy Award-winning show is brilliant due to a mixture of outlandishly clever writing and fine acting, as William Shatner explains the relationship between lawyers Alan and Denny.

“We’re polar opposites – that’s the writing, it’s invented that way, and so the characters say the things that reflect what they represent. And they’re friends because they are opposites and enjoy that difference.”

The legendary, youthful looking 76-year-old actor says he often laughs out loud when he first reads the scripts, and knew straight away that when he played Denny as a guest star on The Practise, it was a potential spin-off character.

“When I had breakfast with the producer, David Kelly, he described what he wanted to do, and I jumped at the chance to be able to do it. Not only because of his genius, but the character seemed so outlandish.”

Shatner says the success of the show is due to award-winner David E. Kelly who pens most of the Boston Legal episodes.

“He’s a genius. The stories he tells, the humour he has, he’s won an Emmy for the best comedy and the best drama in the same year, and he wrote all 44 shows. It’s totally incredible what he’s able to do.”

In the season three finale, Clarence Bell and Jerry Espenson take on a huge gambling establishment when a woman alleges that her out-of-control gambling debts were the fault of the casino, while Alan and Denny defend the brothers.

Tune in to the hilarious season finale of 3’s hit show Boston Legal, screening Tuesday, July 10th at 9:30pm.
