Kyle XY - Sunday 22 July

Kyle XY Sunday July 22, 5.30pm

Kyle XY is an exciting new series about a boy with a mysterious past, and the family that takes him in.

TV2’s new drama, Kyle XY, follows Kyle (Matt Dallas), a teenage boy who wakes up in the forest outside of Seattle, Washington with no memory of his life up until that point. After being found and put in an institution, he meets psychologist Nicole Trager (Marguerite MacIntyre). She realises that Kyle will need special attention – and to be taken away from the institution. So she brings him home, much to the chagrin of her two children Lori (April Matson) and Josh (Jean-Luc Bilodeau). Even her husband Stephen (Bruce Thomas) is a bit wary of his wife’s latest patient. But while experiencing every day things, like computers, music and a high school party, Kyle starts to become part of the family and shows signs of brilliance as he learns the ways of the world.
Newcomer Matt Dallas says he was drawn to playing Kyle because he’s so different from your average teenage character. “He looks like a normal teenager but he acts like he’s a newborn. He experiences everything for the first time. He uses about 40 per cent of his brain. He doesn’t have a belly button. He’s a super genius when it comes to math. So it’s about him learning about society and humanity and these things that we take for granted.”

He admits that he found it difficult to know how to prepare for the first audition. “My manager called me up one morning and said, ‘You have an audition in about two hours to play this character who doesn’t really know how to speak English’. And I wasn’t really sure how to start working on it. The role was like an infant, so I spent a lot of time observing animals and children and the way their instincts work, and the way they react in their exploration of the world. I knew from there that I really had to grow this character, taking from an infant and growing him into a man.”

Dallas believes that the show’s blend of comedy, drama and mystery will get viewers hooked. “It has an interesting concept. It deals with some deeper issues and some real issues. Also what’s kind of nice about it is we’re Sci-Fi/Family Drama meets Sitcom. It’s got these dark undertones of a Sci-Fi thing, but I’m in my trailer laughing out loud. There is a lot of family drama. It’s an interesting mix and it works really well. It will creep you out, make you laugh, and make you cry.”

Kyle XY premieres Sunday July 22, 5.30pm, on TV2.

I can’t wait for this. How come you saw the first episode Rachel? Is that because of the nature of this site?

The first episode was free on iTunes for a while last year but you can see some clips on YouTube.

The show was ABC Family channel’s highest rated original series.
