TV3 to launch Early Morning News

TV3 will be launching an early morning news, information and entertainment show in the last quarter of the year.

Called Sunrise, the show will screen on weekdays from 6.30am until 8.30am.

Produced as part of the 3 News stable of programming, Sunrise will be an energetic way for New Zealanders to start their day.

“We want Sunrise to be a show that motivates our viewers to get going for the day so that they are informed and up-to-date on the latest news and issues, but also start their day with a smile on their face, thanks to our entertaining and engaging presenting team,” said TV3 Director of News and Current Affairs, Mark Jennings.

The network has been hiring staff for the past few weeks and is ready to go with a premium team of producers and reporters.

“I’m delighted we have secured the services of Executive Producer, Claire Watson. Claire has come to us from a similar role at TVNZ and is the most experienced early morning television producer in the country,” he said.

“Auditioning for presenters is ongoing, and the final presenting team will be announced in due course,” said Mr Jennings.

TV3 Director of Programming, Kelly Martin, commented that the addition of Sunrise to the network is a completion of a key programming strategy.

“With Sunrise on air, our viewers will have no reason to go to another channel. We will have the full service offering of morning news, an excellent daytime schedule, evening news, current affairs and entertaining and informing primetime programming,” she said.

The launch of Sunrise coincides with TV3’s live and exclusive hosting of the 2007 Rugby World Cup.

“We very much want to capitalise on the habit forming viewing patterns the Rugby World Cup will create for TV3.

New Zealanders will be watching a lot of TV3 in the early morning during September and October, and Sunrise will allow that pattern of viewing to continue,” said Ms Martin.

At the same time Sunrise launches, a weekday edition of 3 News at midday will also commence.

Further details, including launch date, presenters and other content details will be announced shortly.
