IRB World Series: The IRB Wellington Sevens - Friday 1 February

The IRB World Series: The IRB Wellington Sevens
Friday 1 February, 12.30pm

Geoff Bryan hosts LIVE coverage of the third tournament in the 2008/2009 International Rugby Board (IRB) Sevens World Series from the Westpac stadium in Wellington. ONE Sport coverage of the sold-out event will also be streamed LIVE on

Keith Quinn, John McBeth, Nigel Starmer-Smith, Andrew Saville and Willie Lose will be the commentators for the fast paced, two-day spectacle. The New Zealand team is at the top of their game going into the home tournament. The Kiwis hold the 2006/2007 IRB Sevens crown after winning last year, and have a perfect record in the 2007/2008 tournament after winning the Dubai and George tournaments.
Commentator Keith Quinn says the combination of ‘Mardi Gras’ atmosphere and high standard of play make the Sevens one of the year’s most exciting tournaments: “As someone who’s been lucky to go to all the major sevens locations in the world, I would say that Wellington is the noisiest and the brightest.”

The ONE Sport coverage beings the action and the carnival into viewers’ living rooms. “When we first started, each match was covered like a rugby match,” says Quinn. “Now we also cover the crowd, the colour, the singing, the dancing, the costumes, and the atmosphere in the stadium. It’s a lot of fun!”

Coverage on TV ONE is as follows:
Friday 1 February – 12.30pm-6pm and 7.30pm-10.30pm Saturday 2 February – 2.30pm-6pm and 7.00pm-9.30pm – Finals Day ONE Sport coverage of the IRB Wellington Sevens will also be streamed LIVE on
