Premieres February, 8th at 7:30pm

Set to be the smash hit of 2008 So You Think You Can Dance Australia will be making its New Zealand premiere on Friday, February, 8th at 7:30pm on 3.

After the US series proved a winner, Australia has embarked on a local version to showcase some of its best undiscovered dancing talent.

So You Think You Can Dance Australia promises to keep Australia and New Zealand moving to a different beat, as dancers skilled in everything from the Urban and Street Styles, Classical Technique, Acrobatic Hip-Hop, Commercial Pop-Routines, Ballet, Contemporary, Traditional, Jazz, Musical Theatre, Avante Garde, Exotic, Lyrical Storytelling and more – compete to be named Australia’s Favourite Dancer.

Producers of the show have travelled to Adelaide, Brisbane, Perth, and Melbourne in search of dancers who best represent the rhythm of Australia.

Talented dancers who sparked the judges’ interest during auditions will be invited to call-backs, where the judges will choose the top 20 dancers who will continue in the competition.

The hot series will be hosted by Natalie Bassingthwaighte, one of Australia’s top personalities.
As the lead singer and face of Australian electrorock act the Rogue Traders and former Ramsay Street femme fatale Izzy Hoyland on Neighbours, Natalie has firmly established herself as an international success.

Natalie’s breadth of performance experience will be complemented by a stellar judging panel including international producer and acclaimed choreographer Bonnie Lythgoe, events guru and choreographer Jason Coleman and one of Australia’s brightest dancing talents and choreographer Matt Lee.
So You Think You Can Dance Australia will pit dancer against dancer, following them through a gruelling 12 week competition.

The winner will receive a cash prize; a money can’t buy experience, and the title of Australia’s favourite dancer!

Loved the NZ and US versions of this.

The first 2 nights of the Australian show haven’t let me down. In fact have been really impressed – with the talent and the judges.

No wasting time and rubbish to watch as with AI in the early stages. Just right on with showing us very talented people. And even those who don’t make the mark have done their best and most are worth watching.

Really worth watching – good entertainment.

Just wish it wasn’t on at the same time as American Idol! Same type of programme, and most people who watch one would want to watch the other – like me! Makes it difficult!
But have decided so far to watch ‘Dance’ and record Idol. As all of Dance is worth watching, and a lot of AI at this time is rubbish that can be fast-forwarded.;)

    Love this every time!
Excellent dancers. Really enjoying watching every one of them.
Top group picked out now – so on to knock-outs I guess each week!

At the start of the last show, the judges said how proud they were of the quality of the dancers and their top 20, for this first Australian show. So they should be!!!!

All so good – and so many different styles and people. I did pick the 2 to go this first elimination week though.

Have liked the black guy since I first saw him. (Not too good at remembering names!)

  • Rikki

Disappointed about the 2 that went.
The blond girl was really good and should not have been in that position – as the judges said. The one that was obviously the worse one the night before, didn’t even get in the bottom 3!

As for the guys, well my favourite went – the black guy (so wish I could remember names)!
Really disappointed at that! Thought definately it should have been the guy that looks like Ben Lummis (I’ve always though he does anyway).

One name I do remember is Demi – she’s awesome! Always got a lovely smile and personality. Really impressed with her ballroom dance – what a huge change for her – and wearing high heels to dance in!

This show is for people with the IQ of 50 or less

Well, couldn’t believe that the Ben looking guy (TJ or something like that) wasn’t even in the bottom 3! He most certainly should not still be there when really good dancers are having to go now. The right girl went though – the one with long dark hair. Not versatile enough.

That American woman just makes me want to scream – at her! Thank goodness she isn’t on every week. Remember her on the American version of this we saw.:(
Really like the other judges though – especially the guys. Always good comments and advice.

JF – this isn’t an intellectual show! It’s entertainment – for relaxation and enjoyment – for those who like dancing! Obviously you don’t!;)

Top 6 coming up – and really good dancers left. As the judges say – Australia has been getting it right!

Best as far as I’m concerned are Rhys and Kate.
    Jack not far behind.
As for the girls, though I love watching Vanessa – she’s a beautiful dancer, really think it will be Demi that will stay longer – and may even be in the final, due to her personality and popularity.

Loved seeing One Republic! They sound as good ‘live’ as on disc.
Laughed when Ryan – talking about the Australian tour – included Auckland amongst the Australian cities they’d visited.:)
