MTV Australia Awards 2008

On Sunday March 9 2007, MTV Networks New Zealand announced the return of the MTV Mile High Gig 2008, in association with Air New Zealand. This unique themed flight will see international and local artists performing at 37,000 feet en route to the newly styled MTV Australia Awards 2008 (MTVAA’s).

The first lot of talent to participate at this year’s pioneering MTV Australia Awards was announced today with Academy Award nominee Juliette Lewis and her band ‘Juliette & The Licks’ and Grammy award winning rapper Eve confirmed to perform and present. This never seen before version of the network’s 24 year old award show will be held on Saturday April 26 at Sydney’s industrial entertainment mecca ‘the Australian Technology Park’

Kiwis can be part of this never seen before version of the flagship awards show by purchasing a ticket on the MTV Mile High Gig in association with Air New Zealand. The MTV Mile High Gig departs Auckland for Sydney at 5.30pm on ANZAC day, Friday April 25. Tickets to this once in a life time experience go on sale March 14 from airnewzealand.co.nz. With last year’s MTV Mile High Gig selling out in less than 6 days (an Air New Zealand record) fans will need to get in quick to be part of the action.

The exclusive seats not only include a pre-flight gate party and mid-flight performance from international and local artists – to be confirmed in the coming week – but passengers also receive a ‘money can’t buy’ ticket to the MTV Australia Awards and a ticket to the VIP after party on Saturday April 26.

Rapper and actress Eve at the MTVAAs on her very first visit to Australia. Since breaking onto the scene in 1999, The Grammy award winning starlet has released numerous critically acclaimed albums and films with the much talked about release of her new album, ‘Here I am’, slated to hit shelves late 2008.

Joining Eve at the MTVAAs will be Juliette Lewis who has been a cult figure amongst fans for her daring roles in films such as ‘Natural Born Killers’ and ‘From Dusk Til Dawn’. Most recently the star has dominated the live music scene with her band ‘Juliette & The Licks’. Already recognised by Rolling Stone US for their live performances, critics around the world have praised their dynamic performing persona and their raw gritty style.

The ‘MTV Australia Awards 2008’ will feature eight live musical performances and ten awards presented across music, film, television, sport, viewer-generated content and topical popular culture moments. Eight categories will be viewer-chosen with voting to commence early March. Selected by MTV, the remaining three awards will be recognition awards given to a sports personality, a movie star and the international music artist of the year as a way of acknowledging those who have had a significant influence on the MTV audience.

The MTV Australia Awards 2008 will air exclusively on MTV, channel 60 SKY Digital, on Monday April 28 from 7pm.

Further MTV Mile High Gig and MTV Australia Awards talent will be announced in the coming weeks.
