Dexter coming to TV3

Filling Prison Break’s Monday night 9:30pm slot after its finale is critically acclaimed and Emmy-winning Dexter – for the first time on free-to-air.

Based on the novel Darkly Dreaming Dexter by Jeff Lindsay, Dexter stars Emmy and Golden Globe Award-nominated actor Michael C. Hall as Dexter Morgan, an incredibly likeable forensics expert for the Miami Metro Police Department who also happens to be a serial killer – but one with his own moral code in that he only kills murderers who can’t otherwise be brought to justice.

Season 1 screened last last year on Sky 1 (now The Box). Season 3 will screen in the US on Cable from September, but Season 1 only began screening on free-to-air in the US in February after much controversy and protests. Complaints centered around the fact that the series “compels viewers to empathise with a serial killer, to root for him to prevail, to hope he doesn’t get discovered” (Parents Television Council).

Love this show, can’t wait for it come back. I will keep expecting to see Joey from Shorty pop up when ever Dex is dealing with his victims though, amazing how similar the sets were 😉

  • Rachel

Johnny Barker said he watched a lot of Dexter and researched his character for playing Joey 🙂

  • Wingles

is it Season 1 on tv3

  • beautiful geoff

Just read in the new TV Guide this will be up against Brothers & Sisters on TV2- I love Brothers & Sisters- whcih one will people watch?

  • Rachel

    Yes, Season 1.

  • Jack Frost

yep that was made for TV3 alright, I beat TV3 even wrote and provided some of of the opening script.

I was keen to see the show after the interest here, I should of know better, TV3 just loves these programs that get right into throat strangling violence, I gave up after a few minutes, a few minutes too long.

I am beginning to feel sorry for TV3 staff & viewers they just dont seem to be a peace loving lot at all.

  • campgrrls

Yep. I gave up after about 5 minutes too. I thought it would be good cos of all the awards etc. But just felt the whole thing was a sick premise for a TV series from the bit I saw.

And it’s popular? Doesn’t say much for the state of humanity these days. And made in the country that sanctions torture. Probably by giving the same kind of justification as Dexter gives for his little illegal acts of torture & murder.

Who will screen Season 2? TV3 or SKY BOX?

  • nanisnap

    lol good question Sean.

  • Jack Frost

    yes campgrrls

Take “midsummer murders” for example, it least you get a bit of entertainment before you see 1/2 a body in the grass or under the bush or something, they never (not that I can remember) start off with such “low social mixing skulls” like someone trying to strangle someone else.

TV3 would not have the higher IQ level to show programs like “midsummer murders” just pathetic crap thats why their shows never get in the top 20.

  • campgrrls

I don’t understand your point, Jack Frost? Does Midsommer Murders focus on a central character, put in such a position as to gain audience empathy, as someone who enjoys torture? And do they show such a torturer enjoying doing that torturing, as a bit of entertainment?

I do thin a lot of crime shows are a bit hypocritical. Serial murders are fixated on, often quite spuriously, out of all proportion to their existence in the real world. I don’t get why many programme makers, and members of the public are soooooo fixated on serial killers.

  • Tui

I expected there to be an outcry about this show…but there hasn’t been one. cool

  • nanisnap

This show has a corny storyline but is executed in the most amazing way. Nicely scripted and shot.
