Peter Williams replaces Veitch in TVNZ Olympics coverage.

Andrew Saville tonight confirmed that Peter Williams will replace Tony Veitch on TV One’s 2008 Olympics evening anchoring and also will present the sports news during ONE News at 6pm from Beijing.

    I think this is a good decision. I think I would have preferred Tony but I am happy with Peter, and as they said he is vastly experienced in olympic reporting, which raises the question of why he wasn’t on the original line up in some way shape or form.

    Well, I think that PW has done a great job and, contrary to many bloggers on this site, I’m not that keen on the NZ journos’ tendency to make the news about them and their personalities (Kim Hill, Paul Holmes, et al) and find the manufactured mateship of both stations’ news to be nauseating. I reckon Veitch would have coloured the presentation of the games in a similar manner. The ‘good-natured’ jock-crap that he pushes is a perfect example of what’s wrong with Kiwi culture. Mmm, a bit harsh?? maybe.
