PRIME plays porn

On Sunday 6th July 2008 at 3:00pm during Toyota Grassroots Rugby my mother and I were very surprised to see the SKY TV satellite service begin playing the adult pay channel SPICE:Xcess.

The channel played hardcore porn scenes for a few minutes until the XXX movie “Desperate Blackwives 2” began playing but that did not play long enough to get to anything pornographic.

At approximately 3:06pm the channel flashed another adult movie for a few seconds and then switched to the SKY logo. After a minute or so Prime’s scheduled program returned to the screen.

It made us laugh but just how much trouble can SKY get into for this huge huge mistake. I wonder how many children were watching the rugby show at the time. What an education for them.

I am 6 months behind on my TV watching. 70 videotapes recorded in LP with 6-10 hours on each and now 80 DVD's with 4 hours on each. At least I don't have to watch the ads.

PRIME PLAYS PORN – Check out the News tonight. The other channels will dine out on this one.

  • tvnewser

    Wow that is really something…

  • MrCynical

id be mortified if porn came on when i was watching tv with my mother

  • tvnewser

I wouldn’t care about my mother, but I would be very concerned if their were small children in the room.

  • Jack Frost

Get real dont be a wimp if you protest over the mess up,
At least there was no senseless killing like all the crap on TV

lol, I love TV screw ups.

I remember when Sky bought Prime, and the Porn Presentation Suites were moved from Mt. Wellington out to Albany
We were all like ‘well, this can’t end well’

I think it will be interesting if this has any effect on the government’s current review of the Broadcasting Act.
After all, this couldn’t have ever happened if Prime and Sky’s operations weren’t merged at the Albany Broadcast Centre.

Personally I find it a little dodge that the Porn suites are right next to the Prime Newsroom, just me?

Still, when it came up on my screen I was like ‘hmmm, I don’t remember ordering that’.
But ‘Porn & Sport’ It’s like every heterosexual man’s (and some manly womens) Dream.

The BSA’s gonna slam them on this one.

TV3 ran a story on this as well but their version was awful. almost as bad as Prime’s original blunder.

TVnewser, it seems there were children watching, going by One News last night. And Jack Frost, time for you to get real. You are the wimp. This is no ordinary botch up. Do you have any idea the damage that can be done to very impressionable children by viewing this material. Why do you think we have all manner of codes and regulations around this stuff? The Sky TV folks can’t just slide off this with an apology. Whether there is a formal complaint or not, Sky TV must immediately implement a robust process to ensure that this cannot happen again. The best fix, of course, would be to dump the mega-loss making Prime, and get back to their knitting. But they won’t, so they must do much much better to reassure their subscribers. A weak apology is simply not good enough. Slack ass government departments have to condust a review, make changes and front up to be accountable to those who pay them when they stuff up, why not these folks?

Well, a few weeks ago I blogged saying that grassroots Rugby in New Zealand was f**ked, I really didn’t expect Sky/Prime to confirm it in a literal sense…

Jack Frost – it would appear that you are of the view that it is acceptable for children to be exposed to pornography, mid-afternoon on a Sunday. Maybe you’re sitting nude at your computer, trenchcoat at the ready for when you next head down to the local park…

My view is that this “mess up” is rather serious. It’ll be very interesting to see whether the BSA accepts the promptly issued ‘Sorry’, or whether it decides to discipline Sky/Prime more severely. Either way, this has to be another nail in the coffin of Prime (either that or it’s a rather desperate marketing ploy).

I wonder how many complaints will be made to the BSA

  • reece_555

this is a huge stuff up, how can they may claim it as an accident going by how long it went for how stupid were they not to notice there output content. I cant wait to see what happens next.

  • HHH

i estimated on the BSA website that it takes 3 – 4 months from when the complaint was laid till the decision is posted on the site

  • Fozzy Bear

Look at it from a humerour point of view for a moment, though:
1 – Kinda brought new meaning to “Crouch, touch, pause engage!”
2 – Anyone new or not familiar to the rules of rugby would think “Hmph! I’m pretty sure that’s NOT proper tackling technique!”

  • PurpleTentacle

Damn, I need to start watching PRIME more…

(lol, one of the spam captcha words is ‘endowment’)

  • Just me

There seems to be a unlisted program on PRIME, WHY I dont know it got me beat it is better than some of the listed programs PRIME have

PRIME every sunday 10:30am to 10:40am, a bit (or two) of world history) last week they did the company Mr. Boeing started up & also the Vietnam war. Most of the news clips are in monochrome but that is no big deal, it is better quality than most of PRIME listed crap.

  • jimmy

Sky is such rip off! we purchased a Hd tv and connected the sky box to it but all we receive is the same quality we get on our 9 yr old TV! In order for us to get HD on our shows we have to pay an extra $10 towards our monthly payment of $74.01 (suscribed to wtv channels) and an additional $$$ for a setup MyskyHDi. This is absolutely f***ing bull****. I sometimes wonder whether they are scamming money or not….

  • TuiKiwi

    Are you watching HD channels?

  • Lucas73

Yeah man. I’m glad I read the fine print before I shelled out any cash. It’s a rip alright. The don’t say that on any of the TV ads. I’ve been going into TV shops lately and the increased resolution of the new HD TV’s is just not a big enough jump in quality for me to care too much about. I’ll only get the big LCD (not plasma) screen for plugging into the computer and XBOX360 first and foremost. And the longer I wait the cheaper they get.

Sadly C4 cut all the good bits out of Porkys tonight 🙁

  • SniffNtheTearsAway

I think we should all boycot Prime. that is a bad message for our youth.
