The first New Zealand version of the globally popular quiz show Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? is coming soon to TV ONE.

TVNZ is calling for contestants from around New Zealand to be on the show by Clicking Here

Those selected will be flown to the Who Wants To Be A Millionaire studios in Melbourne where the series will be recorded in front of a Kiwi audience and fronted by a New Zealand host.

“TVNZ is thrilled and proud to bring Kiwi viewers the first New Zealand version of this phenomenally popular show,” says Andrew Shaw, TVNZ General Manager of Commissioning, Production & Acquisition.

“The opportunity to share the studio, set, lighting, computer system and production expertise of Channel 9 makes this New Zealand version possible,” says Shaw.

Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? is the multi-award winning quiz format created by 2waytraffic. The show launched in the UK where it quickly became a ratings phenomenon. Since then the format has been licensed or optioned to every major territory in the world.

The format has unparalleled play-a-long-at-home appeal, with viewers either on the edge of their seats or with their head in their hands, hanging on to the contestant’s every answer!

    Hi all,

I’d quite like to host it. If you don’t ask etc. etc.

    Obviously everything to gain!

I’m the hero in the clip and don’t even get to speak! One would need to have a decent ego to do it….

    Cheers,

    Thomas.

    Hi

I love your show and have a thirst for knowledge. I would love the challenge of being a contestant on your next series as I understand the current series if a full house. Please contact me to let me know how we register for the next series. Looks like quite a few people want to know the answer to that one. I promise you I will be a good competitor and I will entertain your viewers. I look forward to hearing from you.

    Thank you. Radu

This show is SO BAD!!!!!! The questions are so bloody hard, it’s difficult for most people to get to $1000 without using about 2 life lines! It’s like they don’t want to give away any money which makes for damn boring TV. We should just give up trying to copy overseas game shows as we suck at it and we’re too damn tight.

  • Fozzy Bear

Some of last night’s early questions were a bit too hard. Then again, I was dumbstruck at how the contestants couldn’t get some of the other easy ones and wasted two lifelines on them.
The Alison Rowe winning the New York Marathon question should have been at a higher, harder level I feel, as it’s something not as many people know or would remember accurately, especially with only 1979-1982 to choose from.

I can’t believe anyone would want to go on this show. It is appalling. They obviously have NO funds so hence a very tight budget. Making it so hard to get to $1,000 is very BORING to watch. Try watching the UK version on prime and see the difference – it is great!
Dont bother to do these types of show if you have not got the money to give away……..boring boring boring. I hope it is OFF the TV very soon to save NZ’s embarrassment.

  • bobscoffee

or have you ever considered the possibility AJ that you’re just not bright enough? i believe there is a right mix of easy and slightly harder questions in the nz version. the fact that the contestants just can’t seem to get the easy questions correct is their problem not the show’s.

  • Sarah A

I agree AJ, it’s bloody stupid. I don’t consider myself super intelligent but there isn’t often a time when I can’t get to $1000 or higher on the UK version. The NZ version, on the other hand, ask questions that are too hard and more often than not the contestant has finished up and gone not long after $1000. It’s boring – there is no excitement. I watch the first half and I’m completely over it!!

To have to use a lifeline before $1000 really says it all. Stop being so tight!!!!

I am beyond belief at this show if the show cannot get its questions correct how can the contestant get the correct answer. FYI there is NO SUCH PLACE as Momona airport. Dunedin International Airport is in Momona but it is not called Momona airport, this show should give the guy his money…

  • Louise

I was a flight attendant for 19 years in NZ and I know Dunedin’s airport as ‘Momona’.
