TVNZ & Deaf Awareness Week

Deaf Awareness Week takes place from 22 – 28th September this year. TVNZ is looking for advertisers to show support for this by allowing their ads to be muted for approximately 5 seconds and to have “open” captions running across the ad, to educate viewers about the television experience of the deaf and hearing impaired in New Zealand. Preferable advertisers are: those with brand ads currently on air so that viewers are already familiar with the content (as sound is lost for approximately 5 seconds) commercial material is already on station. Please contact your TVNZ Sales representative if you would like to support Deaf Awareness Week this year and participate with a new ad not yet on air, material has to be on station at least a week before it is scheduled to go on air. This means for the week commencing 21 September, material would need to be on station no later than 12 September.

Captioning

For 400,000 deaf and hearing-impaired New Zealanders, their experience of television can range from patchy to downright exasperating. This is where captions come in. With Deaf Awareness Week coming up, now is the perfect time to take up the opportunity to reach the maximum amount of viewers by contacting TVNZ Captioning to have your ad captioned. Captions are available on page 801 of Teletext.
