The Big Food Fight: The Diet That Time Forgot

Tuesday 23 September, 9.30pm

The British diet is at an all time low and the country is regarded as the fattest nation in Europe. Despite ‘never having it so good’, Britain’s diet was actually healthier back in the days of World War II rationing.

Overdue for some extreme diet therapy, The Diet That Time Forgot sees four junk food addicts go back in time to swap one of the worst diets in the world for one of the best. They will head out to Northern Pakistan to spend a month living with the Shimshal people, a remote herding community who subsist on a primitive diet free from additives, saturated fats and sugar-laden treats.

The four Brits will go ‘cold turkey’ as they swap chicken nuggets for goat; pizzas for super lean yak; and tinned ravioli for apricot soup. It’s a nutritionally balanced, optimal diet which has resulted in locals living to a ripe old age, free from obesity related diseases like diabetes, heart disease and cancer; but to our Brits – who fail to consume five fruit and veg a month, let alone a day – the diet will be tasteless, monotonous and downright unpalatable.

Find out whether these fast-food junkies will be able to stick to the diet that time forgot, and if the experience will provide the wake-up call they need to change their eating habits once and for all.
