TVNZ cancels Agenda

Agenda’s executive producer has revealed that the show has been cancelled by TVNZ.

Ratings for Agenda over the past four weeks have averaged at just over a mere 55,000 viewers, up slightly on the last four weeks of the show in 2007.

The numbers alone are somewhat misleading. The show is in a difficult Sunday morning time slot and could have been successful as a late evening show. More importantly, the show provided countless sound bites and generated stories for ONE News and Breakfast, as well as for TVNZ 7. Media commentators widely watched and discussed the show and many will miss the insights into New Zealand’s political landscape.

this is an outrage. this show had a lot of potential but it seems clear now they never had any intention to grow this show. i’d be extremely disappointed in tvnz if they don’t have any replacement

It will be replaced with an internal show, Newstalk ZB believes.

That’s interesting bobscoffee. I was surprised to see that Agenda has its own stand alone website. I wonder if them being outside the tvnz.co.nz tent has anything to do with it.

This is very very B A D NEWS. TVNZ you are PATHETIC, but then again i am fast realizing that such an act is of no surprise from you these days.

‘Agenda” is the best insight i had into NZ Politics and was looking forward to how the very talented group who present it now were going to delve in the workings of our new Government.

I think the fools in the Programming dept at TVNZ (or whomever steers the ship wearing an obvious set of blinkers) that you have shot most of one of your feet completely off! You have forgotten that it’s our taxes that prop up most of what you provide as the State Broadcaster so concerns around Ratings should not become an issue when considering such public service programs as “Agenda”.

Lets wish that some arrangement can be made so that “Agenda” can continue on another channel but knowing your pig ignorant attitude this is unlikely to happen….

For my money, I don’t care who produces the show, but I’m hoping that there will be a little more political neutrality once it is taken over by TVNZ news and current affairs people. If TVNZ can make a better show for less money, and get it a better time slot, then bring it on.

According to 3News “The programme is highly regarded by both politicians and commentators.” Now you certainly wouldn’t hear TV3 saying something like that about a TVNZ show unless something bad was happening to it!

Bob that story you’re referring to http://www.3news.co.nz/TVNZ-pulls-the-plug-on-current-affairs-show/tabid/418/articleID/81491/cat/270/Default.aspx

was written by NZPA, not 3 News… so, um…. yeah.
