TVNZ’s Breakfast audience is now almost 7 times as big as its competitor on TV3, and the figures are still rising.

In November, Breakfast’s average audience grew from a rating of 3.9, to 4.1.

By comparison, TV3’s Sunrise grew by point 1 of a ratings point, from 0.5 to 0.6.

And in Sunrise’s key demographic of 18 – 49, Breakfast’s audience is now 5 and a half times bigger, having increased its average rating from 3 to 3.3.

Sunrise’s average rating in its own demographic increased by point 1 of a ratings point, again from 0.5 to 0.6.

TVNZ’s head of News and Current Affairs, Anthony Flannery, says the monthly figures reinforce Breakfast’s position as leader in the early morning television stakes.

“Breakfast is increasingly New Zealand’s favourite breakfast programme. The fact is that on an average day nearly half a million New Zealanders* tune in to Breakfast, and less than 120 thousand tune in to Sunrise,” he says.

“Breakfast provides New Zealanders with all the news and weather they need to start their day.”
