Please cut costs by $25 million

The question that must be on everybody’s lips over at TVNZ right now must be, isn’t this new National government about creating jobs?

With the request for $25million in costs to be cut, it must be expected that some fringe office worker is about to get a DCM notice.

The call for cost cutting measures is in response to falling advertising revenues which are now 10% below budget and represent a shortfall of some $30m.

It will be interesting to see what the cost cutting measures will be.  Will we see across the board pay cuts for executives, reductions in operating budgets or multiple job losses?  Only time will tell.

I think TVNZ need to cut the fat anyway. 50 managers? Gimme a break. Fire them, problem solved.

I’ve heard they are going to save a lot by cutting back on Wheel of Fortune

If you look at the size of TV3 compared to TVNZ, and then compare the amount of programming hours it is quite obvious that TVNZ is way over staffed. They are also way too top heavy, with managers managing managers etc. Advertising revenues/economy slowdown etc etc is a good excuse to clean house. About time management were down the door….
