The Simpsons: Season 20 Premiere

7:30pm – Sunday, May 31 on TV 3

Woo-hoo! This week The Simpsons return with all new episodes of the series 20th season. All New Simpsons premieres Sunday, May 31st at 7:30pm on 3.

Throughout The Simpsons’ 20 years audiences have gotten to know not just the Simpson family but a cast of thousands. The little town of Springfield has had more than its fair share of run-ins with presidents, celebrities and other superstars – all the while managing to stay the humble little town we know and love.

“I think we’ve used more yellow paint than any other TV show,” jokes The Simpsons creator Matt Groening about the fictional town and its characters.

However no single member of this town has done more with their life than Homer J. Simpson himself. In his perpetual 36th year of life, Homer has visited both heaven and hell and covered the earth and space between. He’s saved and ruined thousands of lives, won a Grammy Award and both befriended and brawled with presidents.

But despite Homer’s unworldly life over the span of the series’ 445 episodes, Groening says The Simpsons still manages to stay fresh and original. “The writers and animators continue to amaze me,” he says.

“There’s an episode from a few years ago in which Homer tries to kill a spider in his garage and ends up getting his neck smashed repeatedly by the automatic garage-door opener. It’s just an exquisite little piece of mayhem,” Groening adds when asked about his favourite Simpsons moment over the last 20 years.

However after such a long, successful run, the creator says a major challenge for the show is to avoid repeating itself. “The latest episodes are as clever, complicated, sophisticated and wild as any we have ever done.”

So what do the creative minds behind the The Simpsons have in store for Homer and the rest of Springfield in this 20th season? Find out when All New Simpsons returns on Sunday, May 31st at 7:30pm on 3.
