Last season, six men lost their lives on the Bering Sea doing one of the deadliest and most lucrative jobs in the world, crab fishing in the frigid Alaskan waters. This year lives are again at stake, and some won’t make it back. The Season 5 King crab season opens with life and death stakes, before the boats even cast off. The fleet is ageing and so are the captains with the Wizard’s skipper, Keith and the Cornelia Marie’s skipper, Phil experiencing ominous health symptoms. Nerves are raw, as the two men await medical test results and their doctors’ clearance to fish. As the fleet launches, the captains are under huge financial pressure due to costly summer boat repairs and as a result they need to get on crab fast. However, one skipper arrives on the crab grounds and discovers he isn’t able to fish at all due to a damaged hull. To make repairs, he puts on diving gear and descends into waters where few men return from – the icy Bering Sea. Through hell and high water, the season continues to unfold with boats encountering low crab numbers, crew tensions, serious injury, a typhoon and a sunken boat.
