In 1990, Pretty Woman turned Julia Roberts into a star and gave Academy Award-winner Richard Gere’s career a much-needed boost. In 1999, the romantic comedy Runaway Bride reunited Roberts, Gere and director, Garry Marshall, together for the first time since they teamed up on Pretty Woman.
Roberts (Notting Hill) stars as Maggie, who has left three grooms at the altar and has gained notoriety as the ‘Runaway Bride’, while Gere (An Officer And A Gentleman) is the cynical reporter who decides to write an article about her marital near-misses, predicting she’ll do it again. He tracks her down to a small town in Maryland where she’s spending time with her family and preparing to give marriage another try. However, the more time she spends with the persistent reporter, the more doubts she has about her fiancé (Christopher Meloni, Law & Order: SVU).
Runaway Bride also stars Hector Elizondo (Pretty Woman), Joan Cusack (High Fidelity), and Rita Wilson (The Story Of Us).
