New Zealand On A Plate Series 2 Premiere

5:25pm Saturday, September 19 on TV One

The second series of New Zealand On A Plate showcases distinctive, award-winning Kiwi cuisine, and displays food and wine in a way that grabs viewers by the taste-buds (at 5.25pm tonight on TV ONE).

Eleven of New Zealand’s top chefs venture out of the kitchen to explore the Kiwi landscape and collect the freshest of regional delicacies. They then bring them back to the stove top to create a meal that is uniquely New Zealand.

Episode one takes a look at the Rodney District, north of Auckland, where chef Anne Thorp saddles up to enjoy the beauty of the region. She pays a visit to the local farmers market and indulges in sausages, oils, mustards and jams. Thorp says, “I just love farmer’s markets, you get the freshest and the best produce, and you meet the people who produce it.”

Thorp, who wrote the cooking book Kai Ora, says the essence and inspiration for her cooking is traditionally Maori. But she loves the variety of fresh, local produce in the Rodney area and likes to keep things basic when preparing meals from the regions delicacies.

She says “because we have so much beautiful produce in the Rodney District, I don’t have to do much with it, but cook it, and with my cooking, the less preparation the better.”

Episode one of New Zealand On A Plate sees Thorp prepare a simple and delicious feast of oysters, and later travel to an organic farm and one of the regions vineyards.
