CRICKET

The Summer of Cricket begins with the Pakistan tour of New Zealand where they will face off in a three game test series. The series begins in Dunedin at the end of November, moves in to Wellington on the 3rd December and concludes in Napier on the 11th December.

Both teams have recently done well in the international scene. Pakistan is the current ICC Twenty20 World Champions, while the BLACKCAPS beat Pakistan in the semi final of the Champions Trophy.

The 2009/10 series of the IRB World Sevens Series begins in Dubai on the 4th December and moves on to George, South Africa the following week. New Zealand Sevens have won the series seven times as well as the Rugby World Cup Sevens title in 2001 and Commonwealth Games gold medals in 1998, 2002 and 2006. Coach Gordon Tietjens is predicting a huge rise in numbers of people playing the sport following it’s inclusion in the Olympic Games from 2016.

The FIFA Club World Cup UAE 2009 takes place in the city of Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates from December 9-19, 2009. This is the first time the tournament is being held in one city. The matches will be played in the city’s two largest stadiums, Mohammed Bin Zayed Stadium and Zayed Stadium. Auckland City FC is representing Oceania and SKY Sport will bring you LIVE coverage of all of their games.

TENNIS

SKY Sport brings you LIVE coverage of the Davis Cup Final between Spain and Czech Republic from Spain. Spain currently holds a 3-2 lead over the Czechs in their head-to-head series. The Czechs will be playing the Final for the first time since Ivan Lendl inspired his nation to win its sole Davis Cup title in 1980. Since then Czech Republic has been an almost permanent fixture in the World Group with Tomas Berdych and Radek Stepanek leading the team in recent years.

The Trusts New Zealand Championship defending Men’s Singles winner, Matt Gallop has confirmed that he will be a starter this year. Matt joins last year’s Women’s Pairs winners who have also confirmed that they will be back at Henderson to defend their title. Other notables in the field include multiple world champion Gary Lawson and the rising star of New Zealand Bowls Shannon McIlroy. Jan Khan leads a strong women’s field that also includes several leading players from Australia. The Trusts New Zealand Open is to be staged at Henderson Bowls – singles, pairs and triples for both men and women are played with the six finals to be screened on SKY Sport from 8th December.
