Paul Henry’s mouth has once again got him into trouble, this time with a mispronounced name.
The Breakfast frontman repeatedly mispronounced Delhi’s Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit’s name, calling her “Dix-Shit” instead of “Dixit” as it is correctly pronounced.
Newsreader Peter Williams interjected and corrected Henry but he still continued to mispronounce Dikshit’s name while laughing at the same time.
New Zealand Indian Central Association president Paul Singh Bains called the remark a cheap shot.
“It wasn’t in good taste, making that kind of comment,” he said. “Sometimes he makes lighthearted comments but when you do it at the expense of other nations it’s not so respectful. The media should be cautious when making cheap shots.”
A TVNZ spokesperson wouldn’t comment on the incident but said that TVNZ’s internal professional standards committee would investigate.
