TVNZ reporter lands major Radio New Zealand job

Sunday reporter Simon Mercep has been named the new host of Radio New Zealand’s Morning Report.

Mercep, who joined TVNZ’s Sunday in 2008 after a seven-year stint on Fair Go, will take on the role left by the departing Sean Plunket who resigned in June to take up a role on TV3’s The Nation.

Radio New Zealand’s Head of News, Don Rood, said in a statement: “I am confident that Simon will continue that tradition by using his expertise and professionalism to keep the New Zealand public very well informed.

“He will ask the hard questions.”

Mercep has previously worked for ABC radio in Australia, CBC radio in Canada and BBC radio and television in the UK.

He will join current Morning Report host Geoff Robinson in the job.
