“I bake at least three times a week! I like my wee boy to have freshly baked cakes, slices and biscuits in his lunch box for kindy, just the way Mum used to pack our lunches for me and my brothers and sisters.”

Chelsea is a young Mum (or “home executive” as she calls it) from Auckland.

As a kid, Chelsea loved helping her Mum out in the kitchen. “I would stir a chocolate cake mixture, and every time Mum turned her back, I’d dip my finger in. I don’t remember ever getting caught!”

Says her friends call her geeky for being so into baking, cooking, even cleaning… “oh and for owning a vege garden that could feed a village”.

Her nieces and nephews are always desperate to go around to Aunty Chelsea’s house because “we get the mean feed!”

At family get togethers, Chelsea says everyone’s always in the kitchen cooking – but she’s known as the best baker in the family. We’re so competitive with our cooking that Mum has arranged for us to have a cook off amongst the whanau”.

She thinks there’s no point baking if you can’t indulge. “When I bake or cook, I don’t think about my waist line like many people do. If a recipe says milk you use FULL CREAM, it makes all the difference”.

Signature dish: Gooey Chocolate Raspberry Brownies, which have even been given the thumbs up by David Tua – “I have the photo to prove it!”
