Desperate Housewives on TV2

8:30pm Monday, February 14 on TV2

Hit drama, Desperate Housewives, returns to TV2 this week and the residents of Wisteria Lane welcome a new addition to the neighbourhood when Lynette’s (Felicity Huffman) rich and successful college friend, Renee Perry (Vanessa Williams, Ugly Betty), pays an unexpected visit to the Scavo household.

For Williams, having the chance to be part of the hit drama was a dream come true, not to mention a shot at playing one of TV’s hottest housewives. She told the American TV Guide, “I thought it was a fantastic opportunity for women my age to be sexy, delightful and completely different.”

Although Williams has for the past five years played her over-the-top Ugly Betty character, Wilhelimena Slater, she’s looking forward to taking on a new role, and the transformation that comes with it. “I wanted to come at this character from a completely different sensibility,” says Williams. “Some of my first ideas were to make Renee Southern, saccharine sweet or to have the hair and wardrobe [be] completely different.”

Williams delves further into her character and tells us a bit more about her high school relationship with Lynette Scavo: “Renee hurts Lynette’s feelings by telling her, ‘We all had such high hopes for you – what happened? You were the one that backpacked through Croatia, jumped on stage during a Springsteen concert, had a three-way with two of the guys from the rugby team…’ And then Lynette’s husband walks in and drops his suitcase,” reveals Williams.

Signing up to the latest series of Desperate Housewives has also meant, after years of moving between LA and New York, Williams has had to pack up and relocate once again. “It’s dj vu,” she says. “After meeting with [the show’s producer], my first call was to my daughter Sasha’s old school to see if I could get her re-en-rolled. When they said ‘Absolutely’ it was all systems go!”

In the season premiere of Desperate Housewives, the neighbourhood is stunned to discover that Paul Young (Mark Moses) is out of prison and back in the neighbourhood with an enigmatic new wife and seemingly dark motives.

Meanwhile, while Paul is renting Susan’s (Teri Hatcher) home, she, Mike (James Denton) and MJ (Mason Vale Cotton) are living in an apartment on limited funds. But Susan sees a glimmer of hope in getting her life back on the lane when she’s offered an unorthodox job by her apartment manager, Maxine (Lainie Kazan).

Gabrielle (Eva Longoria Parker) and Carlos (Ricardo Chavira) find themselves keeping secrets from one another; and Bree (Marcia Cross), newly single and needing a fresh start after selling her business, finds herself tempted by Keith (Brian Austin Green, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles) the handsome, young handyman she’s hired to update her house.
