Created by the award-winning team behind Outrageous Fortune, Rachel Lang and James Griffin, 3’s brand new local comedy-drama, The Almighty Johnsons premieres on Monday, February 7th at 9:30pm on 3.

The Johnsons are four brothers, played by Emmett Couling Skilton, Tim Balme, Dean O’Gorman, and Jared Turner. Four typical Kiwi blokes who don’t much like to stand out from the crowd. They’re happy spending all of their time striving to get lucky with women, overcoming sibling rivalry and always squeezing a few beers in at the end of the day. But there’s something very special about the Johnsons…

“Axl is the youngest of four brothers,” Emmett Couling Skilton explains about his character. “We start the show with Axl the day before his 21st birthday and very quickly he finds out a family secret,” Skilton continues.

“He has to lead a quest for his whole family. So he’s the brother who at the beginning is completely carefree and is more interested in drinking booze and finding girls, then very quickly has a whole bunch of responsibility put on him to do what is right.”

Just as Axl’s 21st will be a life-changing event for the baby of the Johnson family, The Almighty Johnsons is Emmett Couling Skilton’s first major television role. The actor explains that he could not be happier about being cast is a series which also features such acting heavyweights as Oscar nominee Keisha Castle-Hughes and Ben Barrington (Outrageous Fortune).

“Before this I was at drama school for three years in Wellington, so I’ve had to move to Auckland for the role,” he says. “When I got it I was really stoked because it was a role I had pursued. I missed out in the first round of auditions but had heard about it from other people. I chased after my agent, got an audition for it and within two days got a recall and had to go to Auckland and so on and so forth.”

Now he’s starring in this year’s hottest new series! Make sure not to miss your first introduction the brothers Johnson in The Almighty Johnsons season premiere, screening on Monday, February 7th at 9:30pm on 3.
