Visa Comedy Gala 2011 on TV3

8:30pm – Sunday, May 1 on TV 3

This week TV3 is bringing you the best of the 2011 NZ International Comedy Festival with the VISA Comedy Gala 2011, screening on Sunday, May 1st at 8:30pm, and an extra-long, extra-hilarious 7 Days vs. the World special, screening on Friday, May 6th at 9pm on 3.

If you love comedy, the VISA Comedy Gala 2011 is must-see television. Hosted by U.S. comedian Arj Barker (Flight of the Conchords) and coming to you straight from the 2011 NZ International Comedy Festival, the VISA Comedy Gala 2011 offers audiences a chance to catch 20 of the best acts that the 2011 Festival has on offer, including international stars Peter Helliar, Chopper, and Wil Anderson, and local favourites Ben Hurley, Dai Henwood, Steve Wrigley and Jarred Christmas.

But wait, there’s more! In honour of the 2011 NZ International Comedy Festival, a bumper 7 Days sees a team of plucky locals take on the Rest of the World. This special, hour-long 7 Days screens on Friday, May 6th at the earlier time of 9pm on 3.

“New Zealand has an inferiority complex that can only be overcome with comedy,” 7 Days producer Jon Bridges explains about the one-hour special. “And it turns out The International Comedy Festival is all a ruse to lure the top international stand-up comedians to New Zealand, then invite them on 7 Days and smash them.”

As for which international comedians will be on the receiving end of this, Bridges says: “Aussie tough guy Chopper, U.K. stand-up legend Mark Watson and Canadian funny guy J. J. Whitehead have fallen for our little trap and are walking into their worst nightmare when they face up to Dai Henwood, Paul Ego and Cal Wilson!”

Make sure not to miss the hilarity that will unfold when these two teams meet in an extra-long, extra-funny 7 Days, screening on Friday, May 6th at 9pm on 3.
