CRIME & INVESTIGATION – Sunday 26 June, 7.30pm
James Bulger was abducted from a Liverpool shopping centre and murdered by two ten year old boys.
The image of him as a toddler, holding the hand of one of his murderers is indelibly stamped on the nation’s consciousness.
James Bulger – A Mother’s Story examines the legacy behind one of the country’s most notorious murder cases and how Denise Bulger has finally come to terms with what happened.
Featuring new interviews with Esther Rantzen who Denise credits with helping her smile in public once more, the investigating police officers and a local journalist for whom the story was to become the biggest of his career, the film looks back at a crime which shocked the nation, thrust a young mother into the spotlight and led to the unprecedented trial of two children.
At the time every detail of the case was dissected in the press but the story of the suffering endured by James’s family continued in the background. The repercussions of James’s murder have shaped the lives of Denise and her family since that terrible day in 1993.
