My Kitchen Rules on TV2

7:30pm Tuesday, July 5 on TV2

Our cooking teams, in pairs, each take turns to transform an ordinary home into an instant restaurant for one pressure-cooker night in TV2’s hit cooking reality show My Kitchen Rules.

They’ll serve up a three-course menu designed to impress not only their fellow contestants but hosts and chefs Manu Feildel and Pete Evans.

Tonight the show travels to see Queensland couple Mal Gill and Bec Saul who say they live and breathe food. They have been working in and managing cafes and restaurants for years – but never as chefs.

“I love being in the kitchen,” Mal, 33, says. “There’s something exciting about seeing the dishes come together. I love trying a new dish at a restaurant or a friend’s place, or seeing it made on TV or in a cookbook and then trying to emulate it.”

The couple, who have been together for nine years, dream of one day opening their own Brisbane eatery.

They’ve both worked in hospitality all their lives. Bec, 28, studied it at college while Mal began working at Boticelli’s Italian Restaurant at age 15. The pair say the work well together and under pressure.

“We realise things can go wrong and it’s not the end of the world,” Bec says.

Mal adds: “Bec keeps me in line and organised. We work really well together.”

Winning My Kitchen Rules would provide them with financial security and valuable experience. And it will bring them a step closer to opening their dream caf – which they’ve already named Lady Marmalade.
