81% of New Zealanders watched opening Rugby World Cup match

Nielsen conducted a special survey following the opening game of the Rugby World Cup this month and found that around 80% of New Zealanders watched the game.

A survey of all the individuals in their 500-home TAM (Television Audience Measurement) panel found that 81% of kiwis (15+) tuned into the All Blacks v Tonga match either at home or elsewhere.

77% of those who watched the match did so at home while a further 12% viewed it at someone else’s home.

“This illustrates the power of television in making such a wonderful event accessible right across the country” said Claire Harris, Managing Director of Nielsen TAM, New Zealand.
