The Pike River Royal Commission’s findings as to what caused the explosion and deaths at the mine lead both bulletins tonight.  The most likely scenario is said to be a roof collapse that released methane which was then ignited by what they assumed was the turning back on of an electrical system that had been off for repairs.

3 News had the comment of the night from Lt Col Bronwyn Heslop who said the following in response to the grounding of the navy barge

It’s not ideal but, you know, you have boats, there are rocks.
