Commentary
Every story in the Top 5 on One News tonight included a live cross. First off they included footage from Marae Investigates in their Urewera 4 story which was breaking news. The second breaking news exclusive was a live cross to Kate Lynch in the news room who told us about an event that happened at 10:30 this morning. Hardly the breaking news it was supposed to be. And then it was onto the weather. Central North Island, Northland and Jim Hickey.
3 News’ Tom McRae told us from Kaeo that the rainfall had been 3 times the average for the entire month of March in one day.
The Nick Smith/ACC/Bronwyn Pullar story appears to have more legs yet with Winston Peters suggesting that there is a sex element. Smith’s response about his private life being his business raised more questions than it answered.
The guilty verdict in the Victorian bush fire trial felt strangely out of place after watching all the weather.
