More Rugby League action on Maori Television

The Konica Minolta MINISTRY OF LEAGUE premieres on Maori Television tonight, May 31 at 10.30pm, with the latest in rugby league action.

The magazine-style sports show will provide previews and reviews of Auckland’s premier grade rugby league competition, the Fox Memorial Shield, as well as coverage of school boy, women’s and junior age grade rugby league.

Packed with action, the 13-part MINISTRY OF LEAGUE will screen on Thursdays at 10.30pm and repeat on Fridays at 10.00pm after the popular karaoke show, Homai Te Pakipaki.

Executive producer Brendon Butt, of Kahawai Productions, says the series has taken a grassroots approach to rugby league coverage.

He says fans can look forward to seeing team captains holding the microphone to interview the player of the day, profiles of referees and up-and-coming players as well as schoolboy shout outs.

“We will also be letting viewers know what to look forward to, from match-ups to interesting clashes and players to watch out for.

It’s a grassroots competition so we want the players to be the stars.

In addition to providing full coverage of the Fox Memorial Shield competition, with highlights from each of the five games per week, the MINISTRY OF LEAGUE will also show highlights from the UK Super League.

Kahawai Productions is also providing Maori Television’s dual-language coverage of the FOX MEMORIAL SHIELD in 2012.

From June 2, the broadcaster will screen two new games from each week of the competition on Saturdays and Sundays at 2.00pm on Maori Television.

Both matches will repeat on Saturdays and Sundays at 9.00pm on the 100 per cent Maori language channel, Te Reo.

Maori Television’s Te Arahi Maipi will host the English language coverage, Dale Husband will provide commentary while Tony Kemp and Rusty Matua will add insight from the sidelines.

League star Wairangi Koopu will host the Maori language coverage, with veteran sports commentator Hemana Waaka providing a run-down of each game.

The FOX MEMORIAL SHIELD will run for 12 weeks and include 24 games, providing Auckland league fans with 48 hours of comprehensive rugby league action.

Tune in to the MINISTRY OF LEAGUE and FOX MEMORIAL SHIELD for comprehensive coverage of rugby league in Auckland and beyond.

The MINISTRY OF LEAGUE starts tonight, May 31 at 10.30pm and repeats on Friday at 10.00pm.

FOX MEMORIAL SHIELD starts June 2 at 2.00pm on Maori Television with two games from each week of Auckland’s premier grade regional competition.
