30 Rock

9:30pm – Tuesday, July 3 on FOUR

Entering its brand new sixth season, on top of its usual shenanigans, this year will see 30 Rock addressing the death of North Korea’s Kim Jong Il when the series returns to our screens on Tuesday, July 3 rd at 9:30pm on FOUR.

Leading up to this week’s premiere, 30 Rock producer Robert Carlock revealed that series star and creator, Tina Fey and the writing crew are set to plot the December 18, 2011 death of the North Korean dictator for the upcoming season.

The story will take place where the last season left off, where Jong Il (played by Margaret Cho) kidnapped Jack Donaght’s (Alec Baldwin) wife, journalist Avery Jessup (Elizabeth Banks), in North Korea while travelling on assignment.

“We sort of went back to the script because we’d already shot eight or nine episodes and we realised that luckily we hadn’t referred to King Jong Il by name yet, just to North Korea in general,” Robert Carlock explains. Following Kim’s death, fans immediately took to Twitter to find out what would happen on 30 Rock, leading Banks to tweet:

“Appreciate all the concern over Avery Jessup’s fate now that Kim Jong Il has died. We’re at a pivotal moment in history.” But what exactly does this mean for Jack and Avery? Find out when 30 Rock returns for its unmissable sixth season on Tuesday, July 3 rd at 9:30pm on FOUR.
