Downton Abbey season three details revealed

A few details about the third season of Downton Abbey have been revealed. The Crawleys will endure a financial crisis, as Robert admits to his wife, Cora, that he’s lost nearly her whole fortune in a bad investment. All is not well between Mary and Matthew, as she accuses him of disloyalty to the family; and fireworks are set to fly between dowager countess Violet and newcomer Laura (Cora’s American mother, played by Shirley MacLaine).

Aaron Sorkin fires almost the entire writing staff of The Newsroom

Season two of The Newsroom is going to have an entirely different writing staff to season one, as Aaron Sorkin fired all but one of the season one writers. HBO has said in a statement: “Every year each show reassesses the needs of its writing staffs. “This process is nothing out of the ordinary.”

Roosevelt documentary in the works

American network PBS has announced a documentary on the Roosevelt family is to be made for screening in 2014. “The Roosevelts: An Intimate History” will a seven-part documentary that focuses on President Franklin D. Roosevelt and his wife, Eleanor, and President Theodore Roosevelt. Meryl Streep, Paul Giamatti and Edward Herrman will provide the voices of Eleanor and cousins Theodore and Franklin.

Mariah Carey edges closer to American Idol deal

The dealmaking is still going on, but Mariah Carey is the frontrunner to be one of the new American Idol judges, after the departure of Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler. Sources say her paycheck will be $12-15 million dollars if the deal goes ahead.
