I'm really getting sick of this, New Zealand

The ratings are in.  How much impact will The Block NZ have on TV One’s stranglehold on 7:30pm with Fair Go?  Will viewers choose to tune in for one of the most anticipated shows coming to TV3 in years or not even bother?

Last week, Road Cops had a rating of 359,270 while Fair Go had 618,480 so how much more would The Block NZ get after all the hype and build up?

Looking down the ratings for last night, the first thing we notice is that Fair Go took a big dive – down almost 83,000 viewers to 535,820. Surely that’s a good sign for where The Block NZ is going to be.

Two and a Half Men on TV2 also dropped from 489,220 to 411,760 – another 77,460 viewers.

The anticipation is now killing me.  How many more viewers did The Block NZ deliver this week for TV3?

Was it 50,000?  Was it 100,000?  Or was it more than the 160,000 viewers lost by TV One and TV2?

Nope.  It was a paltry 8,680 extra viewers.  Are you kidding me New Zealand?  Seriously?  What does it take for Kiwis to change the damn channel?

“What does it take for Kiwis to change the damn channel?”. A good show?

Regan you are right. TV3 really seems to be making a bigger commitment to local content as they stated, but it doesn’t seem to be paying off enough. Golden is a good example which is a really good show but New Zealanders love nothing more than Big Bang Theory repeats.

The demographic breakdown may be a greater equalizer, lets face it few are fighting for the older end of TV Ones audience that inflates its numbers.

Surely this tells the story of NZ’s shoddy ratings system?

Perhaps New Zealanders are finally waking up to the advertorial drivel that is presented to them.

I completely agree, Regan. Viewing habits in this country are so frustrating.

160,000 people had something better to do than watch TV? Sounds ok to me.

Maybe when all the baby boomers who have grown up with tv1 die the other channels will get bet better viewership.
