The Nutters Club returns to Maori Television

The Nutters Club, a television series dealing squarely and honestly with mental health issues, returns to Maori Television for a third series this Friday, July 20 at 10.30pm.

Mental illness affects one in five New Zealanders and one in two of us will be affected by a mental health condition at some point in our lives.

The Nutters Club takes the taboo out of mental health once more in series three, with 20 all new episodes produced by Auckland-based Top Shelf Productions.

Each week, different guests share their experiences with mental illness in frank and open discussions with host Mike King and resident psychiatrist Dr David Codyre.

Over the past two seasons, the series received widespread praise for its ability to offer real stories, insight and emotion in a style and tone sympathetic to the sensitive topics discussed.

The new season of The Nutters Club will continue to do the same, with some stand out episodes to come, including:

- Kingi and Wendy Biddle, who talk openly about dealing with mental illness in a marriage, and reveal things to each other for the first time as the show was recording
- Newspaper man Jim Mahoney, who discusses his history of chronic addictions
- Ross Thompson a former skinhead once fuelled by drugs and violence
- Iconic Kiwi actor Pete Smith who shares his tragic story of abuse
- Downsize Me star Lee-Ann Wann on battling crippling depression
- The incredibly brave Brenda Cheyne, a rape victim who fought back.
- Tune in to The Nutters Club for the premiere of series three this Friday, July 20 at 10.30pm.
