American network ruins its own Olympics coverage

Questionable Olympic coverage seems to be a bit of a talking point right now especially when it comes to the US coverage on NBC.

The network shot itself in the foot on Monday night by giving away the result of a major swimming final featuring American Missy Franklin before it had screened its delayed coverage of the race.

Just minutes before the start of the race, NBC ran a promo for the following morning’s Today show featuring shots of Franklin with her gold medal and a voice-over saying: “When you’re 17 years old and win your first gold medal, there’s nobody you’d rather share it with.”

However, the delayed coverage is not proving a hindrance for rating numbers with an average of 35.8m tuning in over the first three days in the States, making it the most-watched weekend in Summer Olympics history.
