Fishing show Tangaroa With Pio returns to Maori Television on Thursday October 11 at 8.00pm.
The 13-part series follows entertainer and keen fisherman Pio Terei on his travels around New Zealand and across the Pacific to Fiji to find out about fishing techniques and sample the local kai.
Tangaroa With Pio producer and director Aroha Shelford says people rather than Pio’s fishing prowess are the focus of the show.
“I don’t tell them how to fish,” says Pio. “They tell me, and that way we both learn something.”
He says Tangaroa With Pio is a “fishing show for the intelligent”, as it explores the connection between the sea, lakes, rivers and the people.
“Fishing is a big part of sustaining life rather than just being a sport. I don’t profess to be a pro but as long as I’m able to catch a fish to take it back to feed the whanau, I’m happy.”
Tangaroa With Pio kicks off in Napier where Pio does a spot of fishing before checking out the National Aquarium.
Join Pio for his latest marine adventures in Tangaroa With Pio, premiering Thursday October 11 at 8.00pm.
