What to watch tonight: Tuesday 18 September

Must watch:

Dog Squad (TV One, 8pm)
There is something strangely compelling about watching the dogs on this show do their work. They obviously quite enjoy what they do, because when they find something, they get huge praise and a reward of some sort, and the dogs often bounce around with glee to have pleased their handlers. It’s rather cute. On tonight’s episode, police dog Dredd tracks down a runaway driver in Rotorua, and a large timber mill in Hawkes Bay calls in the drug dogs.

The Mentalist (TV2, 8.35pm)
This show is always good for a bit of crime-solving fun. On tonight’s episode, Jane and the team investigate the murder of a disgraced clothing designer, while FBI agent Susan Darcy continues her investigation into Red John.

Record for later:

Secrets of the Arabian Nights (History Channel, 7.30pm)
Actor/director Richard E. Grant wants to know why the book he loved so much as a child still has such a hold on our imagination.

Natural World: Bears (TV One, 8.30pm)
This documentary follows the world of bears: brown bears who dive for salmon; polar bears who swim between ice flows; and some very cute little bear cubs too…just to make sure you’re going ‘awwww’. I’m loving these nature documentaries.

One Day (SKY Movies 2, 8.40pm)
I really want to see this, as the book is great. Hopefully the movie does it some justice! Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess star as Emma and Dexter, who, after spending one day together on 15 July 1988, begin a friendship that will last a lifetime.
