Oprah Winfrey developing family drama for HBO
HBO is developing a new family drama with Oprah’s Harpo Films. Here’s the plot: It centres on a wealthy academic who has become the first black president of a prestigious liberal arts college. He and his family are thrust into national headlines, forcing them to present an idyllic public facade, all while engaging in agonising personal battles and struggling with dark obsessions.

American Idol start date revealed
Fox has announced the start date for the new season of American Idol, featuring judges Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj, Keith Urban and Randy Jackson. The first two episodes will screen in the US on January 16 and 17.

Greg Kinnear to star in new Fox TV pilot
Fox has a new legal drama called Rake in the works, which will star Greg Kinnear. It is based on an Australian series about a criminal defence lawyer named Cleaver Greene. EW says the Kinnear’s character will have “a mind-numbing lack of discretion and a total inability to pause before speaking … The clients that Cleaver loves the most are those whose cases appear to be utterly hopeless.” Kinnear will also serve as an executive producer of the show.
