Q&A with Craig Cumming

Craig Cumming is a SKY Sport cricket commentator.

What are you most looking forward to for the upcoming cricket season?
The introduction of Friday night cricket for the HRV Cup and the arrival of the English team and their supporters for the International summer.

What is your most memorable moment from watching cricket on TV as a kid?
Every time that Martin Crowe came out to bat I would be glued to the TV and when there was a break in play I would head outside and practice the shots that he would play by throwing a ball against the house and hitting the rebound.

What’s the most challenging aspect of being a cricket commentator?
I am still very new to the commentary role so with every experience I am always learning, listening to the experienced broadcasters and picking up how they deliver and when. Also, listening to Mark Richardson’s stories about how he used to play.

How do you think the Black Caps will perform this summer?
Looking at the quality of the opposition, the current summer looks very daunting for the Black Caps. Playing the top two ranked sides in Test cricket is going to challenge every bit of our team, however as with every summer we look at the quality of our team, and rightly believe if they can perform to their potential on a consistent basis then they certainly can compete. The big question is can they do this? I hope so and I can’t wait to watch what is going to be a very exciting summer of cricket.

What shows do you like to watch on TV (apart from cricket)?
I love watching most sports and am always flicking through all the SKY Sport channels. I love watching the golfing majors and, like all Kiwis, the All Blacks are at the top of the list, and it’s even more enjoyable now that I watch it with my two sons and we make an occasion of it. To prove I have balance, Grey’s Anatomy is a must-watch every week, along with Person of Interest.
