The Ridges outperforms Campbell Live in key 25-54 demographic

Yesterday we released a graph that made some comparisons between the ratings of The Ridges and Campbell Live:

Average Audiece, 5+

There were a few people who would have preferred we use the 25-54 ratings as opposed to the total average audience 5+.  For those who aren’t sure, the 25-54 figures are the key demographics for TV3 and the ones that are said to be of most interest to advertisers.

We requested these figures from TV3 and here is the corresponding graph we’ve created:

Average Audience, 25-54

Compare the two graphs.  The 25-54 figures are even more favourable towards The Ridges than the 5+ figures when compared with Campbell Live.

From a purely ratings point of view, it appears that The Ridges has more commercial viability.  (Even more so when you start to consider the costs to produce each episode of both programmes.)

For those who would also like to see the 25-54 share for both shows:

  • Seriously?

Talk about trying to create a story where there simply isn’t one. Have you plotted NZ’s Got Talent against ONE News?

I wasn’t aware that anyone was suggesting either of those shows were under performing

This was posted because people were asking for it…..

How does it compare in the Maori and pacific Island viewer figures?

Maybe I’m not very good at reading graphs but what I see here is that for four of the six weeks John “The Raving Marxist” Campbell beat Jaime and Sally. If this was a graph showing the results of a 1-day cricket series The Ridges would be the Black Caps. They win the first game and get everyone’s hopes up; then lose the next four and therefore the series; then, when it doesn’t matter, they win the last game (possibly because a Pakistani bookmaker got to the other team),
So how is TV different in that losing 2-4 makes you more “commercially viable”?

You’re basing your comment on the first graph from the previous post. Read the rest of the post again

No I’m basing it on the bottom graph of this post and the line right above it that says “it appears that The Ridges has more commercial viability”.

That comment is relating to the graph above it (Average Audience, 25-54).

The bottom graph shows the percentage of all viewers watching one of the shows which is fairly similar to the first graph from the original post.

The middle graph is the one of importance for this post though.
