Your thoughts: Who should replace Petra Bagust on Breakfast?

With Petra Bagust announcing that she is leaving Breakfast at the end of 2012, TVNZ find themselves in the familiar postion of having to find a replacement for her.

In the comments below, tell us who you’d like to see paired up with Rawdon Christie as the new co-host or name a completely different pairing that you’d like to see on the early morning TV show.

I think Toni does a great job, and she already is Saturday host, and back-up host on weekdays. I would just give it to her once she returns from maternity leave.

    Samantha Hayes

Toni by a mile. She’s got a great personality and fits in with everyone. A very happy person and a pleasure to watch. Go Toni.

i dont think samantha hayes will work we know wot happend wen tvnz poached petra dont we. they overpayed and she underperformed. toni street is the smartest move shes popular first and foremost, shes a journalist {not that sam hayes aint but cum on shes just not ready to be given that kind of position full time} and toni really does have natural chemistry with everyone on the show, but sam hayes could work on weekend breakfast if toni gets the weekend job and considering a former kids presenter hu use to dress up as a cheer leader on what now co host saturdae brekkie then hayes wuld bring some journalism credentials to the position

I would love to see more of Renee Wright on TV.

renee wright would be a good choice.

I think Toni Street would be a good match. The reasoning is that a) she has proved that she has good on-screen chemistry with the other presenters on the show, and b) viewer feedback would suggest people like her, and c) TVNZ would have market research and findings from focus groups that, I think, would cast Toni as bubbly and likeable; just the sort of personality you want on a early morning magazine show. Petra didn’t have a trial period like Toni did and as such there was no proof that Petra’s chemistry and fit with the show would work. The importance of trialing the presenters before finalising them, is therefore a key lesson to executive producers. Tthe original weekend Breakfast team (Tonia and Rawdon) more-or-less get ‘promoted’ to the weekday team.

Of course Pippa could conceivably return to Breakfast.

There is no shortage of young female talent in the presenting ranks: Melissa Stokes, Nadine Chalmers-Ross, Renee Wright, all of whom have been taking on more presenting activity in recent time. Melissa has moved effortlessly from reporting to news presenting and is credible when delivering the news.

YES! About bloody time they got rid of her.

    Bring back Pippa!

Toni Street seems to have a nice personality, but she sounds too much like Lyn of Tawa.
